Serbian Student Activist Infection (2025-2026)
Citizen Lab confirmed a Pegasus infection of a Serbian student activist with high-confidence evidence across December 2025 to January 2026, assessing an iMessage zero-click vector was used. The vulnerability was patched as of iOS 18.4.1.
CatalanGate
Citizen Lab documented at least 65 individuals targeted or infected with Pegasus and/or Candiru, 63 associated with Pegasus targeting/infection, including politicians, lawyers, civil-society figures, and family members. HOMAGE was discovered during this research.
Stelios Kouloglou Pegasus Infection
Citizen Lab revealed in July 2026 that former MEP and journalist Stelios Kouloglou was infected with Pegasus, with forensic infection dates around 21 October 2022, 6 March 2023, and 7 March 2023. Citizen Lab did not publicly identify the responsible Pegasus operator. Kouloglou filed a criminal complaint in Greece in September 2026.
Project Torogoz (El Salvador)
Citizen Lab and Access Now reported 35 individuals and 37 devices targeted July 2020 to November 2021, including journalists and civil-society members, with one-click links, zero-click infection, and data exfiltration evidence.
WhatsApp 2019 Targeting Campaign
WhatsApp reported approximately 1,400 users targeted during the documented attack period via a zero-click vulnerability in its calling infrastructure. This became the basis of WhatsApp v. NSO Group.
Ahmed Mansoor / Trident (2016)
Human rights defender Ahmed Mansoor received suspicious SMS links; Citizen Lab and Lookout identified the Trident exploit chain targeting his iPhone, the landmark 2016 public Pegasus discovery.
